one:1 is a Toronto-based architecture and design studio founded on the belief that great design should be accessible to everyone.

We are committed to creative, playful, and thoughtful solutions that challenge conventional thinking and champion open-sourcing, material exploration, durability, and sustainable building practices. Whether we are designing buildings, or objects, our approach is characterized by the same level of rigor and attention to detail.

We bring a collaborative process to each project, and are inspired by our clients’ needs, desires, and sensibilities.

Co-founded by Suhaib Arnaoot and Dakota Wares-Tani.

Suhaib and Dakota bring different but complementary perspectives to design, shaped by more than two decades of combined experience in architecture, interiors, and visual communication. Their work has taken them across a wide range of scales - from towers and institutional buildings to heritage projects, homes, renovations, and interiors.

Suhaib brings a strong architectural and technical foundation, with a particular interest in how buildings are put together, how materials perform, and how thoughtful detailing can shape a project. Dakota approaches design from a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing on her experience in architecture and interiors alongside a background in art, graphic communication, and creative direction.

Together, their practice sits somewhere between the technical and the intuitive. They share an interest in materials, proportion, light, and the everyday experience of a space, approaching each project with curiosity rather than a predetermined aesthetic. The result is work that feels considered but not overworked, balancing the practical realities of building with the opportunity to make something distinct and personal.
